Union: Russia’s e-commerce market jumps 59% to 3.2 tln rbl in 2020
MOSCOW, Feb 18 (PRIME) -- Russians boosted their expenses in domestic and foreign online stores by 58.5% to 3.221 trillion rubles in 2020, the Russian Online Retail Association (AKIT) said on Thursday in a statement.
“The pandemic pushed the market to develop new services, popular among Russians, like express delivery. We saw ‘logistics in logistics’, when competing delivery services are presented on each other’s sites, unexpected collaborations – monobrand stores with their own Internet channel appear on other electronic floors,” AKIT President Artyom Sokolov said.
The local market’s share reached 86% with the foreign one having 14%, while in 2019 the shares stood at 71% and 29%, respectively.
The top five goods categories were electronics and household appliances; clothes and footwear; foodstuff; furniture and homeware; and beauty and health products.
“The 2021 year would hardly show such an explosive rise, but I am sure that it will bring more amazing formats, services, and mergers,” Sokolov said.
